Kurile Lake, a caldera lake in the South Kamchatka Federal Nature Reserve on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, hosts one of the largest concentrations of brown bears in the world. Every summer, millions of sockeye salmon swim up the Ozernaya River to spawn in the lake, and hundreds of bears gather to feast on them, framed by volcanoes.
